i'm in this phase.. something like this peaceful day before a deadly storm... that kind you know.. before a tsunami.. the tides kinda recede... and for a moment you'd thought everything was peaceful....

so basically yea.. i'd think that kinda impending disaster's commin ... soon

and yes.. i know....i got stuck in limbo again... ever since my last ranting over a school mate's passing.

well basically i was in Shanghai till 17th August.... which was really annoying... especially the fact that my baggage limit's 20kg... my check-in itself was 31.

anyways.. the consolation is that i'm back in town... aint it?

And so CY visited from Beijing for a weekend. which was refreshing... especially during a time where having quarrels with my manager is as religious as taking flu tablets.

go figure

Anyways the weekend was spent escapading around Shanghai...

not to forget Gin & Tonic ...

And also this great place that serves Shanghainese...

1039 (ask any upperclass [i know.. its a wretched society]... they'd tell you 1039 is good.)

They call this "Heart Attack In A Bowl" ... which is basically Crab Roe and ..... you don't really want to know what it is.... just put it in your mouth now kinda stuff

Yes i'm back in town.

PY brought me to 南翔.. the 1 at bugis...

Of course its really amazing...

they had this tofu roll... which tasted exactly the same...

but then again....

its not really the real thing.... isn't it?

Anyways... I were supposed to meet Dong for gym this morning...

somehow the gods did their thing........................

and the rain came...

which explained our gym session got somehow cancelled... but didn't stop us from checkin this cool place out... the 1 beside Purvis Street.

And its amazing so much thought was actually put into their menu... their food... both of us were utterly BLOWN away.

And Dong wanted me to enter into this covenant to keep this place a secret... just like some things.. the best be left to yourself and all by yourself... (sweet)

Dong said something about layers... like this sinful cup thingie...

Thought was actually put into it... that you could feel the layers... first the cold icecream... then the very dark very chocolatey brownie's warmth.. and then how the melted mashmellows sticks everything together..

yes... i'm running out of hangouts in shanghai...

please intro some nice places to me so i could check them out....

and no.... theres more to a place than just their dumplings.. so its not that easy you could get sick of a place...

I went to their highest level this time...

鼎兴楼

The Mother used to say the first level is for commoners... at a very cheap price... otherwise refered as commoner's sanctuary... second level's catered towards the middle class.... probably segregating for the sake of drawing invisible lines in this wretched society. and then theres this legendary highest level... thats where someone will actually pour tea for you.

Sure enough... the difference in service is startling.

And so the escapade began with some pastry, this is filled with just tofu and crab roe.

simply amazing

And here goes the usual... but this time round...Crab Roe's the main highlight.

The color of it simply catches your attention like bees to a pot of honey

And so its enlightening to know that establishments do segregate not for the sake of social class segregating... but you actually get what you pay.

while commoners feel satisfied with pure pork dumplings at the ground level... the middle class enjoys their 蟹粉小龙。。。 which basically meant crab intestines... which still taste good on good months... to the very top。。。 蟹肉/蟹黄小龙 at 鼎兴楼

suddenly all these craziness brings a whole new meaning to the character

I went back to 王家沙 again yesterday... i had to verify my hunch...

2 Months ago my family brought me to this place...

swearing by the family name its the Holy Grail of the
小龙包s

It was April.. Shanghai hasn't really awaken from its Winter phase i suppose.

.. and they tasted wierd...

the 小龙包s had this wierd aftertaste..

bad pig? bad crab? i didn't know.

So after knowin from my Manager that June's batch of 蟹黄 has arrived...

I went back again.

The wierd taste is gone. It tasted natural... and mildly sweet....

i even have this feeling it will continue to taste sweeter from this month onwards.

And so this actually shed some thoughts amongst other things:

That as ignorant as i'd sound.. greatness doesn't necessarily come with every snap of the finger.

Otherwise it will be like going to a yoghurt shop in a temperate place during late spring... asking for tropical fruits.. expecting them to taste well..

and then peculiarly ask everyone
'whats with all the Hype!? Seriously!?.

I guess... some people do need some kind of reality check once in awhile...

Otherwise you'd be forever trapped in your wonderful bubble..... expecting blueberries to taste good and wholesome during winter while as a matter of fact, Blueberry season happens to be in the month of July.

Having Burgers in 上海 is probably as dumb as ordering Green-Tea
flavored yoghurt with kiwis & mangoes from that Yoghurt Shop in New

well i'm supposed to be flying off in a few hours time.
My bag's aint packed.. and my work's not done.

i admit it... i'm a total screw up...
initially wanted to spend the last few days settling unfinished business...

was yet again... drowned into limbo...

Urgh!!#$!.

it just sucked to be left half hanging.. and then u suddenly realise the web hasn't really caught you that deep.

And so was thus left half hanging.. i really hated talking about it..

how Fustration could simply propel into Hatred!.

and then again.. time was actually spent.. watching Hiro Nakamura and Peter Petrelli running around in cool clothes in Heroes... and that too...started from an addiction.. immediately propelling into an ultimate obsession.

why so? if 1 episode last about 50 minutes..
and i watched 23 episodes at 1 go..
that probably meant i have been fixin my delicate eyes on the computer screen for the past 22 hours.

And so i couldnt resist but went to Botan today again.

PY has been swearing by her name that Botan is superb!

The last time i went... i ordered Tempura Set..

and it was oh my godly... mountainous!

they actually gave me 4 shrimps.. 1 piece of salmon.. lotus root( now which place still serves lotus root in their tempura these days!) and the usual tempura stuff...

All stacked together looking exactly like The Andes!

Shaofang at that time ordered a tonkatsu set and was also amazed that.. the server kept flooding the table with small dishes... remarking that she never had a meal that really made her that happy..

Well.. i too came out a happy person

So i dragged Unwilling Brynner to Botan today.. and was warned not to have his wallet burst for dinner.

LOL.. sorray..

Speakin of which... at least i felt remorseful (well its either that or have my home power shut off) and made it up by telling him i'm going to perform some stunts.

Photographs came out like that because of the flash...
shot 90 degree towards the celling.. flooding the entire room with soft light.

And he was rather in shocked that i pulled out that big black mean thing...
and that new flash that somehow landed on my hands *evil grins*

The whole place practically either thought...

1... theres a star in the house.. OR

2... theres a food critic in the house.

either ways this stunt sure called its bluff !

This time round.. my impulses took over me

and i ordered Chirashi Bento

The weekend was spent escapading with my peeps.

sadly.. HammiHammiHam wasn't around.
one big ham.

The Four (4) of us had this lustrous 1.5kg Sized Blackforest Cake from Mezza9.

Now we chose Blackforest from Mezza9 because we had already gobbled down

Well apart from everything... one of the reasons also revolve around the fact that their Pastry Chef got an award at the recent WGS...

We dined in.......... and it was a really posh place,

the cake was then cleverly divided into four (4) portions,

Its been a really long while...

since i last maintained this almost falling into shambles sanctuary...

Was pretty annoyed these days.. left half hanging because of additional paper work for visa application. the worse thing is havin the school telling me me to..

"Elvin you'd better choose a local firm for your intern.. i don't think you get to go anymore'...

and so i was left half hanging.. still awaiting for approval from mainland..... still praying at this very moment... hoping everything will fall nicely into place... just can't wait to start work.

and then 2 Taiwanese came along... they were Rosa's friends and they came crashing over for ... 3 nights.

time was spent thus with them...... away from annoying stuff...

of which... come to think of it... actually made me feel guilty..

Because on the first day... i made them walk from Lido... to..... Merlion...

on the 2nd day... i made them walk around Sentosa...

and then from Smith Street... to...... Suntec City...

on the 3rd day i got guilty.. but still walked from Little India to Arab Street... did abit of Sheesha...and back to Little India.. and then walked around Night Safari park at night.

Night Safari's Amazing.. didnt take much pictures during the trail... was warned that the flash will HURT the animal's eyes...

and that the wildlife is right in front of my face.... wouldn't want to risk my head being bitten off with a flash.

And then TheElvin squeezed his creative juice dry.. deciding what to eat...

so on day 1, we had Laksa at my house downstairs.. for high tea... and then went to The Mother's place for Seafood.

then on day 2, we had a family lunch at Crystal Jade Vivo... eating DimSum... and then to Annalakshmi.. that pay what you feel like paying indian restaurant at Chinatown point.. some desserts in Chinatown...

Had Yet Con Chicken rice at Purvis Street on day 3,.. and then to this ZAMZAM restaurant opposite arab street for Roti Prata...

and finally... their Singapore Escapade ended with........

that Legendary Bak Kut Teh for breakfast ....

Wong Ah Sui ...

just before their flight back to taiwan.....

i hope they enjoyed Singapore...

its actually for a recipe compilation calendar/ organizer......... managed by a team of talented peeps... who went through many obstacles... especially coordinating and red tape..... my sympathy....all for a social cause.

i remember spending the whole day preparing one big pot of chicken just in case the 1st few doesn't work out...

i got the photo back today........... thats really nice of them...

And so time was spent generating reports assignments as well as presentation.

The consolation is TheElvin actually survived the hell week.
with a huge price to pay though...

the good news is TheElvin actually struck 4D and got $16,000 richer.

thankfully the saturday was spent celebrating Lynn's Birthday.

TheElvin actually deserve a break from this ferocious cycle.

Spent an hour queueing up, even though TheElvin arrived at 5.17pm (for the 1st time TheElvin is EARLY..) and it pisses him off waiting for the late comers to arrive and to spend another hour waiting to enter the gates.

Adventures in 台北: 2nd Installment

Yes.. and the story continues with me crashin at Rose's place.. almost my entire stay in 台湾.

In her letter before i left 台北, she sort of confessed that during my stay.. i kinda changed their lives.

How they used to think eating is just eating.. its always a simple thing.. which is sweep up whatever they could find on the dining table.

And then TheElvin came along..

insisting eating has to be proper..
insisting how that noodle shop around her neighbourhood serves really good noodles..
insisting he found his favorite bubble tea shop at the other corner of the street...
insisting how badly he wanted to try the other noodleshop across the street..
insisting how great the egg pancake in the other corner of the street tastes..
insisting that there are so much places yet
to be explored thats beneath your nose....

that somehow along the way..
i became part of their family.
(don't think too much.. part of family meant becoming the youngest sibling in the family.)

They love watchin America's Next Top Model.. it kinda inspires them since both Rose and her Brother are Photographers to be.

And so we kinda played all the time....

to them.. playing means:

playin to be next top model..

so this is what happens when you crash at your friend's place with expensive
toys at home..

PLAY CORNER.

and so we had our own version at their living room.

Though this time round... theres a reversal of roles...

Edison became the photographer while Rose became the model.

TheElvin.. of course, became that bitchy person who designs what props to wear... what to pose etc etc.. kinda forgot which picture i took though...

and so the Food Adventure continues to be backtracked towards Winter 2007.

my very last activity before i left 台北.................... was sneaking into 辅大.

I really gotta thank Sandra and Evonne whom i've met in Orlando, Sandra actually accompanied me......... most of my time in Taiwan.

And so because Sandra is taking a culinary course in her U, our very last Appointment ended up at 辅大 where i sneaked her class.

was abit disappointed when i kinda missed last week's lesson tho... The Chef went through Fish Soup...

It was really an amazing lesson.

The Agenda for that lesson was to carve a Basket out of a Canalope, and make a Rose out of 小白菜。

Guess what... i only managed to finish the Canalope... and the Chef came up to me

Escapade One Moon Late: CNY

Yes i know.................. this post is 1 moon overdued.

Nevertheless i gotta document whatever i did for CNY 2008.

its always been a ritual to have a CNY party at TheMother's House on 初一.

This year is resoundingly different. i don't know why...

The Mother simply Decreed

" 阿 Boy.. we go Hatyai on Tuesday night... Drive up"

And TheElvin goes like

"哦..."

And so CNY turns into a Food Adventure taking a 12 hour Drive up to the Northern Tip of Malaysia.. Across the Border... and into Hatyai.合哎

Haiyai has always been a pilgrimage for my family especially when it comes it food. Local Teochews have been there for decades and most of the establishments i visit, basically has been there for more than 6 decades... sometimes 3 Generations old...

Food Pilgrimage it may be, the secret is that the price is astoundingly.... affordable.

My most prized discovery is an 8 course dinner (thai-chinese style, has pork leg, assam fish and everything...).. at 480 Baht.

to me.. Hatyai is indeed a Jewel in the middle of an oasis. and trust me.. it took great pains this time round to make this biannual pilgrimage. (Thanks to Tiger Air, had to resort to Nissan Silphy)

This time round.. there wasn't much footage caught... not only because i'm caught up with work (Term Paper, Term Report and Presentation) ... which makes me feel like some retard.. work in the hotel by day and night.. and only out to have my meals and manicure pedicure...

somehow i feel like i'm earning 10k a month workin my ass like
that.

To cut the story short and save my whines for another day....

The only stuff that gives a clue to this year's Food Pilgrimage..... is this:

yes.. today is the end of week 7 and i finally had time to breathe...

many things happened. and have been busy

Spent my time mostly towards buildin TheElvin's portfolio.................. with SMU Gourmet Club..
i secretly hope Jack made a right decision for wanting me on board.

then again it has never crossed my mind to be part of this web. How peculiar this universe operates...., from the very moment i stepped foot in SMU how this web started spinning ... awaiting for that very moment for TheElvin to fall into it.

Never in my life had TheElvin carried weight on his shoulders on such scale.

Believe me, any minor miscalculation would have set a chain of catastrophic
reactions to upset the grand design.

TheElvin is worried.

Was happy to receive an Intern offer in Shanghai though.....

Rather Satisfied with whatever i have.

Got a New Toy recently from Miss Yang which really burned my pocket... (and no.. The mother hasn't chased me out of the house yet)

apart from the usual stuff.. pencil case.. pack of tissue... maybe medicated oil and your water bottle... there are actually essential items needed.

They are:

Memory Boosting & Speed Writing Incense

Heres another 1 that points directly at you... maybe your seat...

don't get caught for attempt arson in the exam hall though..

Next in Line...

Scrying Crystal

these are useful especially when the exam requires you to search out some words or places within given text.
different ores help... depending which paper youre taking...

calculus.. geography... you name it.

Next useful tool

Scrying Mirror

well if you ever need to ask your mom or your best friend next door during the exam.. this might be useful.

Oracle Runes

are useful as well, especially when there are multiple possibilities and you can only choose 1 answer.

Divination Sticks

another variation of oracle runes if you think runes carved out of stones are too bulky.

Crystal Ball

This is actually essential, before the exam you can use it to scry for questions....
during the exam.. you can use it to answer the questions... especially when the paper wants you to give a forcast.
After the exam.. maybe u'll get a glimpse of your own grade

A compact version would be good. can be packed in pencil case.

Lastly...

Answering Dice...

A Must bring essential for Statistics, Divination and other papers that require you to choose from multiple answers.

and so today marks the end of week 12.

surprised that i am still breathing at this very moment...

after incidents of hurls and yells and snaps at TheElvin..., school can be a very
annoying place afterall.
in fact i am quite sick of the people around me.
throwing tandrums, exhibiting fustration towards TheElvin... not a professional
sight at all.

was quite glad today also marks the end of my presentations.... though it became quite obvious whatever affected me was brought to my stage... causing mocks and a joke for the audience..... not a very good sight too

thankfully.... i managed to take a jog... and a breather... running into Fort Canning Hill after all these craziness. Zhenglong was asking how come i didnt tell anyone that i'm going running.....i was like..

right.. i'd rather be alone

and so alone i went and its a good 60 min spent getting in touch with nature.
Fort Canning Park... Such Serenity.. and i'm quite glad i was alone running... to where i don't know... i just ran and ran.

and those chorus of frogs croaking... crikets singing...lizzies and squirrels indulging in their very own orchestric performance...the tranquil of nature's symphony......

and so when i gave my roomies a piece of my mind... i told them blatently....

and so Mel Tanu and TheElvin adventurously attends The Wine Affair with Gourmet Club...which was supposed to be a dessert wine pairing session.

guess what.... after 2 hours of talking by the speaker...

of course whatever the speaker says are invaluable knowledge... greatly appreciate it...

and then... i had 1(one) miserable glass of Muscat with a slice of Apple Strudel... through out the entire session....

and so i'll continue ranting about how bad this week started...

for 1,... i broke 3 glasses within 2 days in Frujch since Monday (they're gonna kill me one way or the other) and ... and that's not really a good sign since there is a high chance i'll have to return them some form of equity ...

and then on tuesday i dragged MEL to Competition Law Seminar in admin block hoping for some rush of insights......
which turned out to be badly misrepresented when the entire session is solely on how to build a good government agency.... maybe thats just bad luck.

and then today~ guess what...

TheElvin actually made announcements to the whole world that there is this Grand Piano Event and he highly Endorses it! since he went for the same event last term which serves Free Flow of Wine and Cocktails..... it was more or less highly anticipated...

BULL.

and so today was spent entirely on Intellectual Property Rights, arguing whether ice cream yoghurt and yoghurt products have the same customer base... and the language was full DOUBLE NEGATIONS!.. sounds almost sanskrit to me

it was quite a troublesome process actually... to try to keep the language to such that its said 'Not Unfair..... rather than saying Fair...'.. for the sake of sounding like a lawyer.

and ALAS when four of us actually quarreled over the facts... some1 called for HALF-TIME!
which lands us in Carrefour PS for that sudden cravings for...... ice scream yoghurt...

and all that fresh produce... chives...leeks...bay leaves..iceburg...brocolli... so FRESH.. radiating for my attention!

my gosh i really miss those days when i have to rush off from work... rush back home just to prepare dinner for my roomies...

and on days i feel like whipping up a feast.... I Really whip up a Feast...

i just miss those days....

to think i used to whine about pouring too much heart and soul into my cooking...

of course there's lotsa Liquor in it...

and so i haven't been updating for quite some time.

but at least now im back...

in fact been talking to people recently.. spent an hour in Margaret Chan's office talking about some creative thinking thingies i came across in MOMA...

and then she asked 'how are you'... i find it hard to reply.

yes it was that bad.. :

i don't know what i'm doing right now.

but in any case ill still try and fill in the gap what happened ever since time stopped.

yes.. time stopped since the very dramatic posts on Disney's.

went travelling to many places, and at the same time met more people.

this picture was the very last moment i managed to salvage... taken in Key West.. which is my very last day in Florida. at that time i was ready to leave that place` i miss home in fact...

yet again... it feels so much heavier

These are the very few people i really miss right now.. Thats Loun from thailand that likes to quack silly sounds while working. Martin who loves to lock me in the freezer... and Angela!

my gosh... when Angela said in self confident manner that i will miss her when im gone.
u can't really doubt a woman at my mom's age u know.. and shes right.

Angela is an Executive Chef to be... and she personally trains me to be good at my work. shes my teacher... my trainer... my sugar mommy... my colleague... my co worker....:
whatever knowledge i have now... most of it came from this very powerful woman who loves to brag how good she cooks and how she started cooking since 9 and stuff.

and i can still remember during my break times i used to sit with her for lunch rather than fellow singaporeans in another table... and i used to bugg her and discuss everything under the sun thats related to food. i even remembered asking her to explain what are scullions.

so yes... even up till now i still miss her so dearly... Angela.. one who showed me every single detail at work... who showed me how to be a good cook... how to prepare carribean cuisine with plaintains..how to prepare a short bread.. carribean style... and that love and care...

i shall never forget.

Edison.... the 1 in the forefront of the picture... he used to come over for dinner and praise everything i prepared even when i know it was quite disastrous.

thats really funny u know.. because you know its something like reaffirming my affinity with the culinery world and that love for food... when it was a quite a disaster from the start

and sometimes when i see myself in him... i see we are so different altogether.

probably thats the reason why we got along so well.

ooh.. i miss these very people right now.

i could not imagine how a trip to America could shake my life so hard that i am not sure whether i could recognise myself .

so for the past month i've managed to get a position in Frujch. which is a Cafe serving Milkshakes and Sandwiches.. Owned by students Runned by students... and i've been cutting sandwiches since.

been thinking quite deeply these days especially the stuff i came across in work, and i felt a sudden urge to pass on my burden to someone else.

maybe i finally understood why Angela was so Eager to teach me everything she knew, so eager to want me to soak up all the food knowledge like a sponge. i think i am comprehending this right now.

that such knowledge weighs heavy and it seems that I too... have a sudden urge to pass it on to another soul like how it was passed on to me.

maybe life is a design after all and that pattern has to be followed.

Disney Made Me Cry

yea. 3 times to be exact.

once in the morning.. during a show showing all the past films over the
years...
once during the afternoon... when the mickey parade marched
past the
area
and once at night.. during the fireworks spectecular.

and yes. its all tears of joy..

it had been a tough and emotional day for TheElvin... tryin so hard not to break down to tears in the park..... and taking those thrilling roller coaster rides (for god's sake)..

For someone who never liked/ or took roller coaster rides... except for the 1 in Korea which is 6 years ago... its like an accomplishment and something to be proud of..
which i did it: 3 different rides in a day. and that takes quite some amount of brave muscles.

so .. why that emotional "yaR yaR"... when im supposed to be having fun in Disney World.. which i did.. i am overjoyed in fact.

why? simply because i have waited 16 years for this day to happen.

you know.. Disney Land... Every Child's dream.. Every child's Pilgrimage... and even for me when i was 5 when i always wanted my parent to bring me to Disney one day...

when other peers are so blissfully enjoyin their childhood.. to disney, to hongkong, to america.. to lotsa places in the world.. i was stuck in a rat race working hard studying. trying so hard so i won't fall behind.......

and yes. my parent told me that she won't be able to bring me to Disney a few years back, telling me to go when i have started working.

so here i am. tears just kept rolling off my cheeks.. that i managed to go to Disney's with my own hands and wits......

that maybe after so many gruelling years of hardwork and studying.. which no doubt meant something to my life, these past weeks of slogging in Mama's Kitchen.... having promoted to cook recently....... all seem to make sense in this tapestry..

i cant help but to think whether i had reached a milestone after so many years.... whether this is a feeling when a dream has finally been realised.

realising a childhood's dream, every child's fantasy to be exact.

and that scant moments of wondering 'what ifs and what nots'- thinking whether it had been a scar filled with emptiness lurking inside me all along, that my childhood isnt as full as compared to others.

and so it had been a tough and emotional day for me,

to me.. its like realising every child's dream.. overjoyed with tears... some scant moments of grief and now.. it is like a milestone that maybe... maybe.. that doorway to those mischievous childhood years has closed... while showing glimpse of some working life.... .

maybe.. just maybe... i might be ready for my next phase....

After spending much thought maybe its time to pen it down and probably even attempt to explain why am i here in the 1st place.

and so i have almost spent a month in America.
how it feels like? getting used to the fact cars are driving in opposite directions.

Huge is the new Norm and speaking of Huge, Food Portions are Doubled, of which sodium and sugar contents are exponentially multiplied to dangerous levels.

before i get too far away into the cosmos, let me 1st explain what i meant by what i said.

1st of all, Americans love salt and sugar. they love Fudge and their desserts are made mainly from Fat, Sugar, and more Sugar.

as for their food, apart from some who has connecting linkages to Mars, of whom they eat fresh and organically grown stuff. the rest of their population love stuff thats salt based.

Imagine McDonalds and how Supersize Me describes the kind of nutrition you get each day.
you know what, McDonalds is not even staple over here.. there are much terrifying stuff which they eat every single day.

cheese.. salt..salt... and more salt.

now i miss home.

but fear not, for TheElvin cooks for himself, insisting dinner should be made from scratch.
well at least thats something to look forward to.

and where was i now.

and so why am i here in the 1st place. well the answer simply is..

i don't know.

maybe that sudden urge to go to new york just to try their cheesecake.

but to me, for now. which i've been telling myself, since im here i might as well make the full use of it and grow as much as i can.

and its good to realise that for 1, i may not be a brat afterall.
and 2, i am honing alot of my skills, at the same time radiating my charms in my workplace.

yea. i am not being arrogant or elitist or what.

but the truth is: i am good. i am competent.

besides having the other chefs complimenting me from time to time which may be a good thing,
i do stumble from time to time as well.

maybe because i put too much love into the things i do that made me so upset.

like how some of the guest really boils my blood from time to time,
aye i might as well just describe a few of the stuff i went through... not to brag, but simply to prove a point.

it was a few days ago when my blood nearly melted the
thermometer, a few latin americans came to the counter with some food, and im
supposed to serve them drinks. and the fact i had already prepared on top of the
drink machine and told that guest countless times and politely that the drinks
are on top please help yourself.

well guess what, he ignored me and continued talking to his family
(yea he's a father of 2) and gave a look 'ohh what is this?' and took the cup
and tilt it towards him to see what it was.

well there's nth much i could do, i
told him countless times the drinks are ready made on top and ask him to help
himself, of which he REFUSED to listen. so the contents poured all over him and
the food in his tray.

'STUBBORN IGNORANT HUMANS' was the only thing screaming inside me
while i pretended to be empathatic apologizing and stuff.

well all i can say was 'Serve him
right', i tried my best and its his bad karma that brought that to
himself.

where was i. yea so my blood was boiling from day to day... from typical ignorant americans who are really clouded by their own ego.

there was even once i tried upselling unsweet iced tea/ Iced Water instead of
Pepsi to one angmoh auntie.
guess what that auntie said? " oohh. im gonna
take soda` im a soda person and i don't drink water"

and so i was left
thinking:.. right... do whatever you want... i can't be bothered anymore.

so. yea. i get upset from time to time too, like there was once i spent the extra effort to whip up something nice for my roomies and waited for them to come home... and what i got was 'ohh we just had dinner outside'

ohh well, it sort of re enforcing that message screaming into my face, maybe i shouldn't put too much love into the things i do.. especially cooking.

yes. when i cook, i have my own style and i know what i want to whip up. its a kind of a secret ingredient to come up something good to eat, of which its love.

its the thinking that how happy would your roomies/family/guest feel after eating your stuff that makes you go on whipping up that something special .. even if it takes doing that extra effort to make that meal a joyful one.

well anyway.. i've been telling myself that

and it sort of drilled deep into my thick stubborn skull that made me want to conquer every obstacles that comes my way.

i see people whining or complain about the stuff they get or the stuff that happened at work. and sometimes i look at myself thinking whether ill do the same if it happened to me.

and so i've been living with that motto every single day and have been growing since.

now you might think i am becomming some psychotic idiot who thinks so wierdly.

think again, after spending so much money just to see and even taste the american life, you'd think i'll let it screw me up?

and its good. you know... after a mere 30 days to experience something i'd probably take years to cultivate if i were doing something something else back home right now.

alright after bitching so much what has basically happened for the past weeks, maybe its time to talk abit about myself and how i spend my free time.

so basically i get 1 or 2 days off every week and sometimes i spend it to go travelling Eg Miami/ Daytona and stuff, most of the time i spent it either 1:sleeping or 2: buying groceries.

i know i know 'buying groceries' may sound like WHAT THE FUCK to you, but its something i find it meaningful.

i mean seriously, when people go to another country, some would like to just do shopping and hopefully buy something that represents that place to show it off back home that you have been to that country.

Or, some people would do some of the extreme stuff they would never get to do back home eg Bungee / Hang Gliding and stuff.

to me, i like to live like a
local. i like to live as if i am their local, or their migrant... living tasting
and experiencing their kind and their way of life.

and buying groceries
is fun too, you get to meet people, mostly womenfolk.. of which i met lotsa of
vietnamese and chinese migrants telling me where to go, what to buy... sometimes
even how to cook,, and at times... how to get to a new place for stuff.

i love to ask ' where do your usually eat... or any place to
recommend..' to even strangers in the bus.. which hell i know brings me
where.

yes. this is my kind of travelling. full of zest and unknown.
and today, i just hopped into the bus without knowing where it goes... only knowing the bus is heading somewhere i am familiar.. and open my eyes... popping questions every now and then..

haha. maybe this happens if you never do any homework before entering a town. but hey~ even after doing some homework in the Net... you still need to ask the locals to make sure ure at the right place right?..

and so i was urged to alight the bus because she says she always had crab at that Garlic Crabshack. and amazingly.. i listened... and i tried that crab.

it was amazing... maybe i should upload it someday.

so yea... after living and experience the locals kind of life... that kind of insights that fills me.. is something different from the stuff people look out for in their travels.

but anyhow.. i managed to find them ( they waited for my arrival for quite some time)...

and we got our.. umm i forgot where the wine is from.. but i know its a desert wine.. and its less than 40 bux~

i had alot in mind just now.. but seems i have forgotten what to say.
the show was amazing.

addictive

the tunes are swirling within my mind still even after 4 hours have past.

for those who are quite lost what im blabbing, i just caught the phantom just now.
bought the 145 tix together with meL and Ian. and i kinda insisted they should dress up with me. (hehe i mean come on, after spending 145 bux... should give a good excuse to dress up, good hairdo and everything for a red carpet papparazi style entry right? ok minus the red carpet, tho there are security guards receiving us when we enter... they needed to check our belongings.. ehehhe)

anyway, it was an amazing evening. have to thank Mel and Ian for askin me along and made this show, a kind of finale to exam woes.

this was taken with my 4megpix Lumix, seems my sense of lighting has improved

what i wanna say again,,,? ok lets talk more about the performance... Trust me im not gonna broadcast spoilers over here... i hope`

1. first of all, the novel was magnificant and romantic to begin with, and if one knew the story behind the making of this musical, one would be able to further relate to the whole performance.

2. Music is SUPERB.
i was intrigued by the live orchestra though... those who caught it.. or going to catch it... trust me take a walk to the stage during the intermission and ull be mesmerized by how the live orchestra looks like.

3. theatriX IS Marvalous... as an occasional performance go-er, i never expect any theatrix like this before.
in fact 10 years ago when i caught the phantom in Brisbane, i didnt remember seeing such Tasteful and magnificant theatriX effects. my mouth was practically kept open and in AWE throughout.

4. like i said, i caught it 10 years ago in brisbane,.. and today was an exceptionally wonderful evening. probably i was too young at that time i couldnt understand much. but tonight it seems the phantom has worked its magic on me. the whole performance was so tastefully crafted that i was kept in AWE, on the edge of my seat... sometimes in tears too...

how many musicals you've seen have that ability to move you to tears?
not many.

5. i am still humming that Angel Of Music/Wandering Child tune ~ amazing.

well thanks alot... but as promised.. i have finished my papers and i
shall do a finale by blogging how indiosyncratic The Elvin can be.

1) always take off footwear when in Seminar Rooms/ Network Seminar Rooms... even during classes. (time to get comfy u know..)

2) checks emails at least 3 times a day. will feel wierd and paranoid if emails were not checked within a day ( ever tried receiving 66 mails and many warnings for full mailbox within an hour? )

3) Try Dining with me and see if i annoy you by taking pictures with whatever thats ordered.

4) i make sure i bathe before touching my bed.

5) Depends on my mood i bathe in school only after 12 noon. if i have to wake up too early. today's a fine example.

6) if i think i deserve more attention , i will like :
" HELLLoOOoOooooooOO?????" you.

i have decided to halt uploading pictures for a time being.
i realise there has been a shift from mental thoughts to pure picture whoring.

and so my peeps are notoriously late.. some came very late.. about 3+.

so my mom continued and prepare fried bee hoon with sea cucumber.

the party continued until dinner time when aries and gang came.
so its 3rd round of cooking.. this time round... deep fryin the spring rolls that my cousin wrapped.

all in all.. my whole fridge worth of Heniken Tsing Dao... 2 litres of Chadonnay...

the legendary $108+++ Yu Sheng.
we added 2 more plates of fish actually. that way everyone will have lotsa fish!

one of our favourites.. we call it 'Dong Hai'..
and the prawns.. too bad its abit overdone..

ohh this is the main star .. its worth $388+++ and theres duck, oyster, pig leg, sea cucumber.. ohh they call it 'zhu po shen' .. some pig wife's cucumber i suppose. and lots more.

this is one of the desserts.. Fried Nian Gao. its really mouth watering.
